BML 1970 and beyond project

BML 1970 to Present Journals

Goal:

Bring selected journals with 1970-to-present publication dates back to the Biomedical Library from the Annex.  Send remaining 1970-to-present journals to SRLF, or withdraw in lieu of deposit.

Timeline:

Winter 2007-  Hope to complete Summer 2009 as part of larger journal collection shift project.

Coordinator:

Jeff Williams

Current status:

Completed.

Jeff Williams has identified which journal volumes need to come back to BML.  During this process he also identified a small number of volumes that make more sense at the Annex.  The Biomedical Library hopes to complete this process as part of a larger project to shift our journal collection this Summer (2009)

Method:

Linh Huynh generated a Boolean of titles, and cross-referenced this list against a small manually generated sample for accuracy and completeness.

Additional comments:

There are still a significant number of BML journal volumes located at the Annex.  Due to restrictions on the number of volumes that may be sent to SRLF each year, it is likely that these will need to remain in the Annex over the next few years.  In addition, due to continuing acquisitions of online journal backfiles, there will continue to be journal volumes located on-site that should be moved to SRLF.  Once again, due to the restrictions we face in sending items to SRLF, these will likely remain onsite at BML.  Since there is no current pressure to decrease the size of the BML's onsite journal collection, this should not be a problem.  BML does not think there would be a significant benefit to investing efforst to "tag" items for later transfer to SRLF.  The process of identifying items to be sent to SRLF is straightforward, and it would be better to wait until the need to fill a quota, or an opportunity to send additiona material to SRLF is at hand as this would help to prioritize materials.
