Collection Management Working Group
September 19, 2007
Meeting Summary
Present: Ken Calkins, Harold Colson, Sam Dunlap, Ryan Finnerty, Martha Hruska, Deborah Kegel, Jeff Williams
- We had some suggestions for the Remote Storage Policy. The group will make their edits to policy on the wiki.
- Our SRLF allotment of 16,000 will not meet our needs. We estimate that if undeterred we could send:
37,000 volumes from SSH 7th Floor
20,000 volumes from SSH Annex
6,000 volumes from SSH Reference
9,000 volumes from BML Annex journals
5,000 volumes from Music
??,??? volumes from S&E -- Deborah, can you provide an estimate?
??,??? volumes from IRPS Annex -- Harold, can you provide an estimate? Also, will the volumes need to be reviewed or can they just go?
This is a total 77,000+ volumes.
Martha will pursue with SRLF to see if we can increase our allotment for this year once we get a reasonably firm estimate. We'll aim to get that at our next meeting.
SSH and S&E will also do a pilot project to check their volumes against NRLF and discard if there. They will report their findings at our next meeting.
- Key, core titles that are at SRLF and completely online can remain in our collections at the discretion of the collection manager. It's possible that WorldCat Local could provide combined UCSD/SRLF holdings and we may want to discard these holdings then.
