Hi Sam,

Thanks for the UCSD response on 2009/10 deposits.   I will ask Matt Smith to coordinate with Dennis on dates for the summer shipments.

Hi Colleen,

I am pleased to submit UCSD’s annual SRLF deposit request for 2009/10.  This year we again plan to double our 16,000 allocation to 32,000 volumes and Martha Hruska will be contacting you regarding the financial aspect of our request.

As to special format types, the Scripps Archives plan to send 152 archival record center cartons measuring 10 ¼” tall, 12 5/8” wide, and 16 1/8” deep.  We also plan to prepare several sets of microfiche for SRLF deposit.  Ryan Finnerty will be contacting you regarding preparation logistics for the fiche, currently occupying approximately 68 drawers, and we will be able to provide a more precise volume equivalent estimate soon.

The remainder of our deposit will consist of approximately 2/3 monographs and 1/3 serial volumes.

If we subtract the 152 archival cartons and an estimated 500 microfiche packets (a very rough estimate), the remaining 31,348 volumes should consist of approximately 20,898 monographs and 10,449 serial volumes.

Dennis Aldridge will again be preparing the SRLF shipments and his contact information at the UCSD Libraries’ Annex is:

As to the timing of our summer deposits in light of the YRL collections transfer to SRLF, we propose sending one shipment per month from July through September.  We would make up the remainder of the shipments throughout the course of the 2009/10 year.

I hope this is acceptable to you and SRLF, and please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide.  On behalf of UCSD, many thanks for all your help with our annual deposit request.

Best,

Sam Dunlap

Subject: UCSD/SRLF Requests for 2009/10 & Summer Shipments

Hi Sam,

This is a gentle reminder to send me the UCSD Deposit Request by the end of June.   This message is also sent to inquire about summer shipments and the deposit priorities at UCSD.    Please let me know if I should be directing these questions to someone else at UCSD Library.

At UCLA, there will be a big push between July and September to move lots of material from YRL to the SRLF, all related to the YRL Renovation Project that has very specific construction timelines.

In light of the UCLA needs, would it be possible for UCSD Library to limit its summer deposits to perhaps one shipment only?   SRLF would make up for this during the rest of the year.    I realize that all campuses are struggling with space constraints and this request might be too much to ask of UCSD.

Thanks in advance for considering limits on summer shipments.  I will understand completely if this is too much to ask, especially during summer months.    Let me know if you’d like to discuss this in more depth.

Colleen

Dear All,

It is time again to submit the annual campus requests for SRLF deposits.    Annual SRLF deposit allocations remain unchanged for 2009/10, and they are as follows:

UCI           16,000 items

UCLA     136,000 items

UCR         16,000 items

UCSB       16,000 items

UCSD       16,000 items

UC Shared Print has no specific allocation per year, but as of May 1, those deposits total 31,231 for 2008/09.  I would appreciate having a projection for the 2009/10 shared print volumes as well.

The SLF Board had approved additional deposits in the coming year for UCLA and UCSD that, if deposited, will be counted toward their future deposits.

As you put together your 2009/10 request, please provide separate counts for monographs, serials, manuscripts and archival boxes, microforms, newspaper bundles, and other format types.    A reminder to libraries that will be sending JSTOR contributions:  the JSTOR Shared Print Archive contributions should NOT be counted in with your annual deposit request.

Details on the current 2008/09 Year-to-Date deposits are available at:

http://www.srlf.ucla.edu/Deposit/Amounts/YTD_Current.htm

Please respond with your 2009/10 deposit requests by June 30, 2009.

Thank you,

Colleen
